The Wilderness LifeGuard program is a cutting edge course designed to meet the needs of wilderness trip leaders with a focus on prevention. This remote application to aquatic rescue courses can be taken alone as a primary training, as an add-on module to the SAI StarGuard® course, or as a module for current lifeguards.
Site assessment, swimmer assessment, and improvising lifeguarding equipment are key components that differentiate this course from traditional waterfront courses.

General Information
16 hours / 2 days
- Minimum 16 years of age
- Current certification in WFA and Adult CPR (WFR preferred)
- Swim 100 yards
- Retrieve a submerged ten pound object
- Tread water for three minutes
Backcountry guides, canoe trip leaders, private expedition groups, college/university outdoor education programs, hiking club trip leaders, wilderness therapeutic programs, and adventure race safety personnel.
SAI Wilderness LifeGuard certification.
- This nationally delivered curriculum meets or exceeds the lifeguarding guidelines and water safety training of the American Camp Association (ACA).
