Heathwood Hall is also offering an additional CPR course the evening before the NOLS WFA. It will not be taught by NOLS/Landmark Learning faculty.

Location: Club Room (Room 220), James Madison University Recreation, 701 Driver Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801

Tuition: $250

Meals: Not Included.
The University Recreation Center (UREC) is located directly in the center of the city of Harrisonburg with ample restaurants and grocery stores nearby. Students should plan to pack a lunch for themselves. No microwaves, stove or fridge available.

Lodging: Not included
The University has an on-campus hotel called “Hotel Madison” that is within walking distance of the University Recreation Center. There are also additional hotel facilities just off-campus with competitive pricing.

Additional Details: Parking on Campus requires a parking permit and is included in the cost of the course. During registration you will be asked to provide, the year, make, model and license plate of your vehicle. Please make sure that the car whose details you share with us at registration is the same car you drive down for the course. If for some reason you need to adjust what vehicle info later, please contact smtih2ge@jmu.edu no later than Monday, December 4th.

The City of Raleigh is hosting a Wilderness First Aid Course with Landmark Learning and NOLS on Feb 1-2, 2025. You can find more information and register with the link above. If you don’t already have an account, you will need to create one prior to check out. Also note, that all registrants are required to complete Landmark Learning paperwork prior to the program date. Tuition:

• $300 WFA Only, Feb 8-9, 8AM-5PM each day.
• HSI Adult/Child CPR+AED is an optional add-on for $90, Feb 7, 6PM-9PM.

Lodging: $30/night bunkhouse lodging. Indicate male, female, or gender neutral preference when registering. Bring your own bottom sheet (Twin XL), pillow, and sleeping bag. You may arrive after 4PM the evening before the CPR course or by 7:45AM the first day of your WFA.

Meals: Not provided. Bring your own groceries to prepare your meals in an industrial kitchen with refrigeration capacity.

Other Info: A NOLS WFA course can be used as a recertification opportunity for NOLS WFR certification holders (other WFR cert holders will receive a NOLS WFA cert for this course experience). NOLS WFRs must be in date or within the eligibility period to recertify (1 year after expiration). Expect a written and a practical exam, both covering WFR-level material we do not cover in a WFA course. Additional Details:

CPR is not provided with this course. NOLS Wilderness First Aid supersedes the training of First Aid. Not all employers recognize NOLS WFA – check with your employer regarding their acceptance of the higher WFA standard before enrolling – NOLS does not provide a First Aid certification alone.

The course will take place in Lees-MacRae College’s Shelton Learning Commons.

There are on-campus trails for biking, hiking, and trail running as well as a discount golf course.  The Elk River and Mill Pond on campus are good locations for fly fishing.  Equipment rentals are free to course participants and include discs, mountain bikes, fly rods, and more.
