SCHEDULE:
- The online modules will open on February 24. Expect to spend 10-15 hours each week on the online portion of your NOLS HWFR and ensure you finish assignments prior to the start of the in-person skills portion.
- Arrive by 7:45 AM on March 17, for the in-person skills portion.
- The skills portion runs 8AM-6PM daily with one evening session held on Day 3.
PREREQUISITES:
- Complete all release and medical forms and return them to your course host.
- Review the NOLS Hybrid WFR Course Overview so you are fully prepared.
NEXT STEPS:
- Landmark Learning will enroll you in the NOLS CANVAS platform which will trigger additional communications from the NOLS Wilderness Medicine office. The first will be a generic course confirmation email.
- The second should arrive the day the modules open. It will include your CANVAS login information. If you have difficulties, contact canvas_help@nols.edu for assistance.

The University has an on-campus hotel called “Hotel Madison” that is within walking distance of the University Recreation Center. There are also additional hotel facilities just off-campus with competitive pricing.

Lodging: Includes the night before the course starts, ending on the last day of the course.
Group lodging is in cabins that house up to 10. Private lodging is in the same cabins, but it reserves the whole cabin. Private lodging is limited.
Camping is also available but limited, just select the no lodging option. Camping can be in your tent, vehicle, or RV, in the small RV lot on the property. Ask the course host for details.

Hagan-Stone Park has a great campground available that students have comfortably used in the past. Reservations are on-your-own. They tend to book up fast, so make your reservations early if you plan to go that route.
Other Information:
Class will be held 8AM-6PM with an evening session on Day 3. Plan to arrive to Piney Lake by 7:45 each morning to be ready for class to start on time. Bring snacks and lunch each day, as well as your water bottle/s.

Available for student use are two standard refrigerators, two microwaves, coffee pots and hot water urns, as well as three double-burner induction stoves with required magnetic pots/pans. Cups, plates, bowls, and silverware are also available for student use. Students will each have a cubby to use for dry food storage and use the three-sink system for washing/sanitizing at the end of meals.
Lodging: $45 Camping; $75 Bunkhouse
Camping (bring your own gear) or bunk space (bring your sleeping bag and pillow) is available by reservation. These lodging options are located by foot, up the hill behind the Cane Creek Lodge. Campers are invited to use the showers in the Student Lounge area.
Bunkhouses are 4 max to a room, as availability permits. Each room has its own bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. Each pair of rooms shares a common connecting space and covered front porch for downtime and community.
Students may also opt to camp in their vehicles in the parking area. The camping fee applies, and they may use the campers’ showers in the Lodge. No electric or water hookup is available.
You may arrive between 12PM-9PM the day before the course starts. Housing assignments and the grounds orientation will be posted in the classroom lobby. If you cannot arrive by 9PM, you may arrive at 7:45AM on the first day of your course. Class begins promptly at 8AM.
